Broken DVD Movie

Saturday, November 24th, 2007 by Returns and Exchanges

A customer walked in wanting to exchange a DVD movie as she mentioned that it did not work in her DVD player anymore and so she wanted a new one. As usual, we would first check to make sure that the product is in a returnable state such as having the correct items in the box.

Upon opening the case, I noticed that the DVD movie was literally broken in half. I then asked how this had happened as we can’t take back products that have been physically damaged. She then said that she had stepped on it and that it wasn’t her fault that it broke as the disc should be more durable normally.

She then also mentioned that we have a 30 day return policy for her to exchange products and so it shouldn’t be a big deal from our end. It was a very awkward moment.

Buying A New Game Boy Advance SP

Friday, November 23rd, 2007 by Customer Service Associate

A lady came into the store with her son as she wanted to buy a Game Boy Advance SP system for him. She came up to me and expressed how she wished to buy a new Game Boy Advance SP system. Without hesitation, I acknowledged it and simply asked which color she wanted and she pointed at it.

I then opened up the case and grabbed the one she had asked for. She immediately gives me an attitude and says how she had asked for a new one. A little confused, I mentioned how all of the systems there were brand new. She insisted that I was not telling the truth and how she wanted the one in the far back as only that was new. Not wanting to make a big deal, I grabbed the one from the far back and proceeded to process it.

However, she then stopped me and again mentioned how it may not be a new product and demanded that I let her touch the box first. I did so and sure enough she began to rub the whole box as her way to see if it was new. I then politely asked if she was satisfied and ready to purchase the item.

Gameboy Touching

She said no and then told her son to do the same as that is how you tell if a product is new or not. Sure enough, her son started to rub the whole box. She then asked if he thought it was new and he just said that it seemed like it was. I was then finally able to process the sale.

The Defective VCR

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 by Returns and Exchanges

There was a person who came into the store and wanted to return the VCR that she recently purchased. She wasn’t very happy as apparently the product was defective and she wanted her money back.

As usual, I needed to ask what was wrong with the product and we would have no problem providing her with a new one. In an irritated manner, she mentioned how the product was broken as the DVD movie she bought wouldn’t play on it.

I tried to explain how that was normal as VCR players can’t play DVD movies. However, she persisted on how that is not the case and that the product is simply broken. She demanded that we simply give her back her money and to stop selling broken products.

Cleaning A Keyboard

Monday, November 19th, 2007 by Tech Support

A customer phoned in as his computer keyboard did not seem to be working anymore. I asked some basic questions such as for him to check if it was properly connected to the computer. He assured me it was.

Trying to get to the bottom of it, I tried to find out what he was doing before the keyboard began to cease functioning. He mentioned he didn’t do anything other than clean the keyboard as it was a little dirty. My immediate response was that maybe the material he used to clean it damaged the keyboard and so I asked him to tell me what he used to clean it.

He was adamant that he didn’t use anything bad to clean the keyboard. According to him, all he did was soak the keyboard in regular soap and water to clean off all the dust and residue.
